"MUSTANG MEMOIRS" is a page that gives P-51 pilots, crewmen and NAA workers a place to tell their stories to the world. We are seeking these unsung heroes to send in pictures and anecdotes from their past!
Hello, and welcome to the MUSTANG RESTORATION PROJECT web site. We hope you will find your visit informative and entertaining. Our project is working to restore and refurbish the very rare North American Aviation P-51H Mustang on loan to the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum in Rantoul, Illinois.
By using the links at the top of each page, you can see progress reports on the restoration as well as historical information and many pictures of P-51H Mustangs. Please tell all your friends to visit here often. If you would like to be a part of the restoration project, there are many ways you can help.
Unlike many of the Warbird restoration projects you are likely to see, we have no wealthy sponsors or support from the US Air Force to complete our goals. Instead, our project depends on the generosity of enthusiasts like you to help us bring this World War II vintage fighter back to her original glory. The P-51H was the last of the Mustang series and, at 487 MPH, the fastest production fighter of the war. Of the 555 that were built, only six remain in the world.
Once used as an Airframe Maintenance Trainer at Chanute Air Force Base, the Mustang spent dacades as an outdoor display and has suffered the ravages of vandalism and weather from 1949, until moved indoors at the Chanute Air Museum in 1994.
With the Mustang Restoration Project, your donation actually goes to rebuilding this rare P-51H Mustang, and YOU become a member of the team of enthusiasts that are making this happen. As part of the team, you can take ownership in the project, knowing that you are the driving force that is bringing this once fine aircraft back to its original condition. For about the cost of an airshow t-shirt, you can participate in this grassroots effort and make a real difference. What's more, you will receive a certificate that you can display and your name will be listed on the DONORS and SPONSORS page for all of your friends to see.

If you would like to be a part of this project, click on the PROJECT INFO link at the top of this page for more information. To find out how the project is going, see my latest updates on the PROGRESS REPORT page link.
PLEASE! Encourage your friends and fellow enthusiasts to visit this site and the Museum site. We are receiving new information and pictures from an amazing array of sources, and all are greatly appreciated. To help generate funding, we hope to offer site sponsorship, but we need to show substantial hit rates to make it viable. We deeply appreciate your help.
